Systems in Transition

System Shift works to accelerate the transition to systems that are significantly better for both people and the planet. The initiative brings together individuals and organizations already driving change in practice, enabling them to share insights, strengthen their efforts, and achieve greater collective impact.

Over the past five years, System Shift has focused on developing practical knowledge for system innovation. This work has revealed a strong need for systems that are just and inclusive, circular and regenerative, participatory and cooperative. At the same time, many practitioners report lacking the practical skills, methods, and tools needed to turn ambitions into concrete action. The field is not short of models and frameworks – what is missing are practices to apply them in real-world contexts. Achieving system change requires not only skills and knowledge but also shifts in mindset, culture, and norms, along with reflection on the role organizations play in maintaining or transforming systems.

The International Collaborative

In 2024, System Shift launched The International Collaborative, a community of organizations and individuals working to bridge today’s economic and social systems with those of the future. The Collaborative aims to create a global movement of “system shifters” and highlight the stories and experiences of those directly involved in transforming systems.

The Collaborative is made possible by foundations committed to translating systems change theory into practical, lasting impact. Among them are the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Henry Smith Charity, and Ethos from the UK; Minderoo Foundation and Paul Ramsay Foundation from Australia; and TrygFonden and Bikubenfonden from Denmark.
