IN SITU

Site-Specific Art Since 2006
Since 2006, IN SITU has worked to realize significant art projects in architecture and public spaces, driven by the vision that when art is created specifically for a given site and engages in dialogue with its history, architecture, and users, it holds a potential that reaches far beyond the ability to stimulate the aesthetic sense. Art can anchor identity and history, and catalyze social processes. It can create new narratives and meeting places – across generations and cultures.
“Our projects are aimed at areas and places that hold great significance for people, and in the future, we will primarily focus on the preservation and transformation of buildings and sites — a field where art has a unique ability to communicate and negotiate the spirit of a place.”

Art in Dialogue with Everyday Life and Architecture
IN SITU creates art projects that engage in dialogue with people, spaces, architecture, and everyday life. The organization develops projects in public spaces based on the belief that art can shape identity, initiate change, and create meeting points and communities within our shared buildings and environments.
IN SITU works with both integrated art in buildings, urban spaces, and landscapes, as well as with temporary projects — and with developing strategic frameworks for art in municipalities, public spaces, and institutions.

Innovation and Quality in Art Projects
IN SITU is committed to challenging and rethinking traditional formats of site-specific art and raising the quality of art projects realized in buildings and public spaces — partly through a focus on professionalizing the processes that precede an art project. The organization strives to inspire developers and other initiators to involve art as early as possible in a process, as this increases the room for artistic opportunity.

Broad Expertise and Specialization Across Sectors
IN SITU acts as an art advisor primarily for public, but also private, clients — including municipalities, regions, the state, NGOs, and companies — and works across sectors such as health, education, justice, ministries, police, and civil society. The organization works with both new construction and the transformation, reconstruction, and renovation of built heritage.
IN SITU advises state developers in the implementation of the Danish Public Art Circular and serves as a consultant for the Danish Arts Foundation on integrating art into state buildings. The organization continuously collaborates — both with long-term partners and with other advisors.

IN SITU also carries out strategic groundwork for art projects for a wide range of institutions and places — including cities, municipalities, hospitals, educational institutions, and companies such as Lemvig Municipality, Syddjurs Municipality, Gødstrup Regional Hospital, Aalborg University, Gefion Gymnasium, and companies such as KPMG, EY, SimCorp, and Danfoss. IN SITU has also developed master plans for art institutions such as Augustiana Kunsthal and Kunstpark, as well as for public spaces and urban development areas like Kanalbyen in Fredericia.

IN SITU also has extensive experience with art in the healthcare sector and has developed and implemented art strategies for several of the country’s new hospitals: the psychiatric unit at Aarhus University Hospital in Skejby, Hospital of Southern Jutland, Gødstrup Regional Hospital, Zealand University Hospital Køge, the Bodil Eskesen Center, and the National Knowledge Centre for Dementia, Rigshospitalet.
